A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is an engineer who embeds directly with a client, understands their real technical environment and problem, and builds and deploys a working software solution into that environment, often under tight timelines. The role was popularized by Palantir and has since been adopted by OpenAI, Anthropic, and AWS. It blends software engineering, systems integration, and client-facing consulting.
Developers who already have some coding foundation and want to move into a more client-facing, full-stack, high-ownership engineering role. It's also a strong fit for engineers who enjoy variety, fast iteration, and solving different problems for different clients rather than one narrow specialization.
You should be comfortable with basic programming concepts before starting. This bootcamp builds from there into full-stack development, systems integration, and applied AI, it's not an absolute-beginner program, but it doesn't require professional experience either.
Python and TypeScript, React/Next.js, Node.js, REST and GraphQL APIs, and applied AI skills real FDE roles now list: retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), LLM evals, prompt engineering in production, and agent frameworks like OpenAI's Agents SDK.
The bootcamp runs 48 hours over 12 weeks, an intensive, live format with evening and weekend batches designed for working professionals. All sessions are recorded.
